The Cypress Gardens Water Ski Team hosts its annual All American Water Ski Tournament April 11-12 on Lake Silver at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Winter Haven.
More than 70 talented skiers will vie for titles in swivel, doubles, team jump, novice jump, barefoot and specialty.
This tournament has continued since it was held decades ago at Cypress Gardens. “We’re continuing the legacy,” said Lesley Gunderson.
Up-and-coming Cypress Gardens members and siblings Cal and Mili O’Connor, Brooke and Lexie Gunderson and Zyla and Mieka St. Onge are scheduled to compete. Many champions from the World Show Ski Tournament in Australia, the World Barefoot Tournament held in Auburndale last fall and last year’s All American championship team are also participating.
“You will see a lot of champions,” said Gunderson.
Action begins Friday at 5:30 p.m. with the open jump with competition until sunset.
Saturday’s skiing slides off the dock at 8 a.m. Stick around to see what “specialty” acts present themselves at the event. “It’s an opportunity to try something new,” Gunderson said.
The event is free, and the concession stand will be open. Bring your chairs, towels and sunscreen.
